YAO Chung-Han is a Taipei-based artist, a composer, a DJ and also an assistant professor at the Department of Architecture of Shih Chien University.
This September, YAO will make his solo exhibition at High Box, a brand-new gallery and exhibition space. There, YAO will showcase his latest project; a five-piece sound and art installation.
YAO views these five pieces as members of a noise band, Sp.Noise.
Light & Noise x 84 is an ambient noise performer who is also in charge of visual design. They specialise in performing ambient music and, with their modular system, they excel in creating noise and light displays.
Kick#1 — Electromagnet, at 11cm in length and 88cm in width, is the most petite musician in the band. They enjoy using their 96 electromagnets to switch between disorder and harmony.
Kick#2 — Copper, as the cymbal player in the band, provides a clear sense of rhythm through use of their powerful cymbal-like voice.
Kick#3 — Concrete and Glass play from the left and right-hand sides of the venue, almost off-stage. They have wildly different, yet complementary, personalities and playing styles. Sonorous, orotund music is created by the glass, whilst the cement whispers briefly and subtly.
LN-Machine, the only band member which uses speakers, could be a stand-alone installation. With 16 lights echoing their composition, LN-Machine is a confident, independent performer who thrives being the center of attention. Whilst they perform independently from striking X-shaped scaffolding for all to see, in-between performances they wind-down by spending their time at ground level.
Throughout the composition, YAO will discuss sensory experiences, from space to place, with materials, installations, sounds, events and time. We cordially invite you to experience the 2021 Solo Exhibition by YAO Chung-Han.
